We focus on eventing – including dressage and jumping elements. Our instruction, facilities and competition schedule is geared to eventing.
We also breed, train and sell the remarkable Connemara Pony.

Valerie Everson
Valerie Everson will coach equestrians training at Rocking Horse Stable. They will benefit from Valerie’s considerable practical and professional experience.
Valerie has been in the horse business for 30 years. In the early stages she rode and taught with the Canadian Pony Club. She also received instruction from two well-known dressage coaches; Cara Whitham a well-respected coach, rider and the Dressage Discipline coordinator for the Canadian Equestrian Federation and also Mrs. Sue Rothgeb, one of Canada’s top International Dressage judges. Both these coaches helped Valerie to establish a strong foundation in basic horsemanship and dressage training. Valerie managed and instructed at numerous stables before establishing her own Rocking Horse Stable in 1986 in Wendover, Ontario.
In 1978, Valerie attended The Talland School of Equitation in Cirencester, England obtaining her British Horse Society Assistant Instructor’s certification.
Returning to Canada, Valerie trained as a working student with notable Canadian and U.S. riders in order to receive their personal instruction in the sport of Three- Day Eventing. In 1980, Valerie worked with Ms. Elizabeth Ashton then Captain of the Canadian Three-Day Event Team. In 1981 Valerie moved to Maryland, USA to train with Mr. Michael Plumb; then captain and six-time member of the U.S. Olympic Three-Day Event Team.
In 1985, she obtained her Physical and Health Education Degree from the University of Ottawa. While at Queens and Ottawa Universities Valerie studied biomechanics of movement, sports psychology and coaching procedures. Valerie’s combination of formal education and practical experience places her in a unique position to provide high quality instruction to riders of all ages.
In addition to teaching and operating Rocking Horse Stable, Valerie is an active competitor. In 2000, she was Champion of the National Capital Horse Trails Pre-Training Division. Valerie also competes in dressage at the Basic 3 and 4 level.
Valerie is a member of the Canadian Equestrian Federation, and has obtained her C.E.F. Level 1 coaching certification. Valerie is also a member of Horse Trials Canada, the Ontario Horse Trails Association, the Canadian Dressage Owners and Riders Association (CADORA) and the Ontario Agriculture Federation.
Valerie is very involved in the Canadian Pony Club and is a founding member of the United Counties Pony Club branch.
Facilities
Rocking Horse is an excellent facility for schooling in dressage, cross-country or jumping. The facilities are open to all boarders at the stable and on a daily fee basis to visitors. Call us for more information at 613-488-3066.
We offer 14 spacious box stalls in a new stable and attached indoor riding arena. The 140’ x 70’ indoor riding arena is beautiful, with great lighting and footing. The 2nd story viewing room and balcony offers a very nice site for demonstrations and clinics.
We have four complete cross country courses for schooling at the Training, Pre-Training, Entry and pre-entry levels. Our courses range over rolling, sandy terrain. We have a large water complex, steep hills, wooded trails and open galloping
.
The stadium course is a well-drained derby-style jumping course with well maintained jumps. We also have a 300’ x 150’ sand ring and lots of open fields.
